Survival Expert and Trainer Bob Cooper

Survival Expert and Trainer Bob Cooper

By David Rutter

At the Snow and Outdoor Trade Association (SOTA) 2010 Fair, Garry and I sat down with Bob Cooper to talk survival.

Bob’s extensive knowledge of the subject is a result of his 25 years experience in teaching survival and bushcraft skills. He has instructed Special Forces Units, lectured Texas Parks and Wildlife Service staff on desert survival, and is a frequent guest speaker on ABC radio.

Bob was quite critical and candid in his opinions on various survival subjects, including the Bear Grylls series and the recent survival story of Jamie Neale, who was lost in the Blue Mountains of NSW for over 10 days.

Bob Cooper Survival teaches a number of different courses not only on survival, but also snake handling, off-road driving, tool making, tracking, and abseiling. Bob has also put together a survival kit – a kit that is also used by the Special Forces Units of Australia – which he sells on his website. It too is the result of his extensive experience and contains high quality tools, his unique survival playing cards, and other essential items.

About David Rutter

Dave grew up on a small acreage on the outskirts of Sydney, within a stone's throw of the bush. Having spent a large part of his childhood exploring the bush behind the family home, much of his adult life has been spent exploring the world - he has lived in Sweden, traveled much of Europe, travelled in the Pacific and South America, and more recently in Asia. The Australian bush is however, the place where he feels he truly belongs.
