I’ve been through the Grand Canyon near Blackheath a few times on my way to the Blue Gum Forest, but the track takes a high path around the canyon. The 4 hour trip by Eagle Rock Adventures took our small group down right into the canyon.
After a short hike down from Neates Glen Carpark, we did our abseil down. It was a short abseil and then a drop off – for first timers it is a great introduction to abseiling, and our guides made it very simple and enjoyable. After the short abseil we walking, swam and slid our way down the canyon. The Grand Canyon is a spectacular canyon, narrow in some sections and pools in some section (so swimming is required). It is a sheltered lush environment, so there are many ferns and moss.
Our guides Andrew and James were patient, easy going and knowledgeable, and knew the geology of the area quite well. A trip with the company is definitely recommended.
